Facilitator: Marco Steinberg
Group 1: highly established “fix Harvard”
· undergrads, grads – who is the student?
· what is the differentiating factor?
o systemic problem solving
o sustainablility – life cycle
o interactive design as a possibility
o research
· How to organize?
· How to keep the school nimble, continuously learning and open to trends/ideas globally instead of only in the own country
· What kinds of careers will the grads have? How can they change the world, what impact?
Group 2 : Design with a great tradition
· School of design
· look at the reasons for the success; focus on the methods
o institution formal with limited existence? tenure?
o Academic freedom? A dilemma: become a scholar or millionaire; can you have both?
· Rolling contract: support the vision, permission to dialogue
· Labschool of design methods
· Make it short term
Group 3: No context
· Will be everywhere
· Travelling school: Institute in global, broad view and cultivate contact points (could be companies, schools) and move students to different points. We’re not just teaching, also cultivating people.
o How to keep it together?
o How make sure students aren’t pushed into work too early, give them time to learn
o We’re going to the direction of loosing innovativeness in many educations, many are just to give enough to make a living
· Uni’s constraints – not all are highly successful, so we need a good business base
What is the vision of design? At least to visualize, synthesize, present life (complex, multidimensional).
